what is cellulite

If you happen to be a woman over the age of 30, the odds are extremely high that you have cellulite somewhere on your body and you’re probably wanting to know “Exactly what is Cellulite and how am I going to get rid of it?”.

It could be that it came on slowly and gradually took over and then when you realized what was happening, it was too late – your lower body was covered with cottage cheese!  Let’s be honest – it’s not pretty.  It’s embarrassing.  It’s ugly and it’s hard to get rid of once it’s taken over.  But don’t give up yet.  Let’s look at the answer to “what is cellulite” and why we get it.  Then we can talk about how to get rid of it.

What is Cellulite?

There’s a lot of technical mumbo jumbo that pops up in answer to the question “what is cellulite”?   Many people will say that’s it’s simply fat, along with water, just beneath the skin.  But the truth is that  Cellulite is a condition that causes the skin to appear dimpled, much like “cottage cheese” or “orange peel”.  Cellulite is a combination of fat and  the connective tissue that it’s trapped in.  Most women find this condition on their lower extremities – buttocks, thighs and hips, but it can find its way to other places like your stomach and arms.  It’s not that picky where it lives.  It’s also a condition that affects both thin and overweight people.  We most often think of women when we talk about cellulite but men can get it, too.

Cellulite can be caused by many factors including:

  • Weight gain
  • Genetics
  • Hormonal Changes
  • Bad Eating Habits
  • Sedentary lifestyle

If you’ve gained weight, you probably saw an increase in cellulite to go along with it.  Weight gain is typically caused by poor eating habits – either choosing the wrong foods or eating too much in general.  Cut back on the foods containing sugar and fat.  These are major contributors to cellulite.  Instead, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.  Stay away from the fast food drive thru.

A sedentary lifestyle (lack of exercise) can cause you to get cellulite – especially on the back of the thighs and butt.  Starting an exercise program is a great step towards reducing cellulite.  It’s also a very effective way to eliminate toxins from your body, not to mention that it firms things up that otherwise are a little flabby.

Drinking water – lots of it – will also help to flush those unwanted toxins from your body.  Try changing out those sodas for water and you will be amazed at the changes in your body.  Your body is mostly composed of water and it needs lots of water to operate at a high efficiency.  Your body cannot flush unwanted toxins out of your body without adequate water.  Drink it – it’s good for you!

Some of the other things are beyond our control such as genetics and hormonal changes.  The best advice I can give you is to not let it get you down.  You will have to work at getting rid of the cellulite but it can be done.

How Do You Get Rid of Cellulite?

If you’re satisfied that now you know the answer to “what is cellulite“, then it’s time to figure out how to get rid of it.  As I mentioned above, diet and exercise are a HUGE part in getting rid of it.  These are things you can begin immediately that don’t cost a penny.  In fact, you’ll probably see that you’re saving money by eating better.  Fast food is not cheap!

You can also look into various spa treatments or doctor office treatments to help reduce cellulite.  These types of treatments typically cost a good deal of money and require repeated treatments.  After you achieve the desired results, you’ll probably have to have maintenance treatments as well.

If you don’t have $1000′s to spend on cellulite treatments, you can look into some of the OTC creams and lotions that are available.  Take a look at the review of the top 5 cellulite products:  Cellulite Cream Reviews.  Those products range from cheap to “not so cheap” but all are under $100.  It’s something you can do at home in just a few minutes each day.  Check it out.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The longer you let the cellulite remain on your body, the harder it will be to get rid of it.  If you act quickly, it’s much more likely that you’ll be able to get rid of it.
